Overview

Let’s meet meat-loving animals!

Book Intro

(English) Animals That Eat Meat

The Neverland Zoo Series is great because:

① It shows the happy lives of popular animals and zookeepers

② It provides information on the life cycles of animals at the Everland Zoo as well as ecological information

③ It reminds readers of the values and attitudes of humans toward animals

④ It contains heart-warming illustrations and images that encourage learning about animals in multiple ways

This book introduces readers to seven popular meat-eating animals at Everland Zoo. From a distance, nature simply looks beautiful, but if you look closely, it is wild and cruel. Since carnivores are generally larger than herbivores and have weapons such as sharp teeth and claws, it might seem that they don’t have many problems for survival. Yet, they do have their own problems: it is far more difficult for them to obtain food than plant-eating animals. They need to have skills to chase and hunt herbivores on the run, and patience to wait for their prey to come closer. Most of all, they don’t get to eat if they fail in hunting. In addition, they must stay alert all the time to protect themselves and their families from their competitors who seek to take their territory.

Animals That Eat Meat is the second volume of the Everland Zoo Series, which consists of five volumes. This volume describes seven species of carnivores living at the Everland Zoo. The seven animals include Lion, King of the Savannah; Tiger, King of the Forest; Cheetah, World’s Fastest Animal; Brown Bear, Giant Creature; Hyena, With Peculiar Spots; Meerkat, Guardian of the Desert; and Desert Fox, Small and Cute. Moreover, the names and habitats of other flesh-eating animals (gray wolf, white shark, African wild dog) are listed in the appendix to help readers learn about the broad range of meat-eating mammals.

About the Author

Everland Zoo

(English) Since opening in 1976, Everland Zoo has served as an ecological education center where countless people have been impressed and touched by communing with animals. This zoo features Lost Valley and Safari World, where visitors can see herbivores such as giraffes and elephants and carnivores such as lions and tigers, while riding in an expeditionary vehicle. At Panda World, you can see giant pandas and lesser pandas, which are endangered species. There’s also the Albert Space Center, Tiger Valley, and Ppuppa Town. Zookeepers at Everland Zoo are devoted to taking good care of the animals for their health and well-being.

Everland Zoo was registered as the first Asian regular member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums in 2019. The zoo continuously works hard to improve breeding technologies and maintain a zoo environment that keeps both animals and humans happy. Everland Zoo hopes that this book will provide ecological information on animals and let readers into the ordinary lives of animals and zookeepers, who build friendships at the zoo.
