Overview

This picture book talks over the values of solidarity and co-existence in life.

Book Intro

Humanity and non-humanity have overcome death after the great war.
A solid fortress in the destroyed world, and a life of solidarity and hope

In the distant future, the planet becomes barren destroyed land, food and resources are depleted, and fights for better survival conditions drive every creature to the extreme. A small few members of humanity create a new species for survival. Non-humanity, a group that includes bats, turtles, lizards, and mantises with similar physique, intelligence, and emotions to humans become the companions of humans and form a family. The pair build a city wall on a desert island, their last nest, directly feel the war, and sustain their lives day by day by taking care of each other and communicating. Mong, who records the image of the pair in the sketchbook, arrives at The Immortal-Peach Orchard, a utopia within the war. He has a message for those who open his sketchbook.

An outcome of long-time worries over the scarcity of the original work and the public value of the reproduction

The stories of the 14 pairs within this book are motivated by the people, animals, and nature inside and outside of the house and the relationships of all whom the writer has come to know in life. Thus, humans in the distant future and their non-human partners are very real and allow readers to think over them and the relationships surrounding them. As a story of relationships, this book discusses the values of solidarity and co-existence among all lives.

This book is a work produced by So Yungyeong, an artist who speaks out against hypocrisy of humans and levies criticism against civilization. The book consists of drawings on the largest size of standardized paper with conte, charcoal, and pencils. With coloring ink and color pencils, the artist creates rich tones. The book is largely made up of three chapters, each of which consists of a 14-cut independent episode under a single theme, taking the form of a series of paintings. It is created in a manner of attaching paper to a wood panel and producing paintings by standing. Mong, who observes and records the pairs of the future world with writings and paintings in the book, is in fact the artist herself.
