(English) LADY McDONALD
LADY McDONALD is a novel that reinterprets the life of a real person “Granny McDonald” who was once broadcasted on TV in the early 2010s. On one winter day, an old grandmother is found dead, sitting upright on a park bench. She is “Kim Yun-ja,” a female homeless, who always dressed well and spent her days at McDonald’s. Even though she did not have much in her hands, she refused to let go of her luxurious taste and classy attitude—and “Shin Jung-ho,” a PD who broadcasted her life on the streets, receives her obituary and looks back to that year when he covered her life. Lady McDonald did not sleep lying on the streets; she saved her pennies to dine at a fancy restaurant—and people criticized and judged her as “a homeless woman who lost her sense of reality in vain.” But wasn’t she someone just like us, who did her best with what she had to make her days beautiful? Despite her financial difficulties, she knew true wealth by being faithful to her own standards of happiness. Kim’s warm, bright smile will console the readers’ hearts.
