Upon winning the grand prize at the Munhakdongne Awards for Children's Literature, this book received an accompanying review that said "This story goes beyond even didacticism and breaks new ground by delivering the essence of the historical children's story". Against the background of the historical events involving the persecution of Catholics in the Joseon dynasty, this story talks over the ideologies of society and individuals as well as the lives and critical minds of the elite class and ordinary people through the life of the transcriber in a detailed and subtle manner.
Breaking away from standard, complacent plots and the conventional development of a story, this creative historical children's story has its importance in that it follows the viewpoint of a child to the end through the childhood of Munjang, the main character. Watching Munjang, who leads a bright and healthy life despite hardships and suffering, it is expected that children living today may be able to look at our society and history with deeper and warmer hearts.
