Overview

This book, which deals with the Korean history and culture from ancient times to the modern era, has been published in Korean and English versions simultaneously for readers of the world.

Book Intro

This book, which has been simultaneously published both in Korean and English versions after six years of writing, editing, and translating, presents Koreans with a question, "How can I tell Korean history to foreigners?" and an answer that enables foreigners to access Korean history and culture. This book deals with the history of the pre-modern Korean era that is not well known to foreigners despite its long history and widely covers Korean life and culture that is not clearly visible from outside. In particular, the focus is on tracking the formation process of the Korean people and understanding their life and culture. It also introduces Korea's dynamic modern and contemporary history in which democratization and industrialization were achieved together, unlike many other countries in the Third World, stimulating the curiosity and to the surprise of foreigners. Through this book, readers can meet Koreans who have created the history of hope in modern history, which has been distorted by the Korean War and the division of the Korean Peninsula.

This book informs readers of the historical experiences Korea and Koreans accumulated, the effects that the experiences have on their life and culture, the values Koreans cherish or consider wrong, thereby creating a clear image of Koreans. Presumably, it is ‘a book that introduces Korean history to foreigners properly’ in that it allows readers to follow the great flow and context of Korean history so far. This book stands out in that it was written to be easily understood by both foreigners and Koreans, and includes a rich variety of 55 maps, 27 graphic materials and 520 visuals to clearly show the flow of the whole history. The author describes the historical events and facts in a way to promote understanding of the context rather than merely listing them, and introduces the persons who led history on every vital occasion in detail.
