This historical children's book imaginativley unravels the story of how the Joseon era scholar, Kim Ryeo, wrote Wuhaeieobo (Atlas of Fish), the first of its kind in Korea. The author tells in a vivid manner the lives of the people from the past, the amazing stories of the fish, and Kim Ryeo’s love of the common people, thereby conveying the value and meaning of the book in a detailed way. Moreover, the friendship between Gaettong and Kim Ryeo, transcending their age difference as well the boy’s coming of age, is delineated very movingly. The harmonious co-existence of nature and humanity and appreciation of all life forms are values that are simple and ancient but is the most meaningful message that all of us could engrave in our heart
