Overview

The bears came to a village where people lived. Can the people live together with the bears?

Book Intro

"A Bear Is Here! begins with the bears coming down to the village. It does not explain why the bears came to the village. It simply says that they came down “a long time ago.” They may have come because they ran out of food or because the place where they used to live had become barren. We do not know.

In reality, we change our place of residence for a variety of reasons. We move and transfer to a new school, and sometimes we can go as far as to relocate to another country to study or to immigrate. We may have to move to another country or another village because of political reasons or religious reasons, as well as because of social issues.

Why did the bears in the book have to come to the village? Let your mind roam free and imagine as you read the book. You can recall details from a book you read or from the news based on your own experience. The book can be read differently based on the reason why the bears came to the village.

A world that sets boundaries just because we are different. Can we live together in such a world?

When the bears came to the village, the people were not so happy about it. It was not easy for the bears to live like people, either. But the bears were smart, and they tried hard. They learned the language and alphabet of the people and adapted to the human village. At last, the village came alive, with bears and people living together. But one day, the people began to get angry with the bears. For some reason, they felt like they had something taken away from them and felt like things were unfair. Eventually, the people built tall barriers and kicked the bears out. The bears pleaded and made all kinds of efforts to return to the village, but it was no use. From the bears’ perspective, they had lost their habitat. They tried to live where they used to live, but they couldn’t. They had become used to living like humans. What choice can the bears make?

A Bear Is Here! portrays the process of how bears adapt to the human village and end up suffering conflicts. Anyone anywhere can get caught up in conflicts. But what happens when one fails to resolve a conflict wisely? How can one resolve conflicts? Can’t bears and humans live together? Let various questions pop up in your mind as you read A Bear Is Here! and try to find the answers to those questions."
