When we turn the first page of this book, we meet a woman and a cat walking down the street just like a couple started by accident while taking a walk one day. The woman has found a hidden cat behind a trash can. Like all kinds of relationships, the woman and the cat have become closer and closer as seasons have changed. The distance between them gets closer and sometimes, they say hello to each other. We all begin our relationships with others and sometimes we become special to each other.
However, one day the cat which tried to avoid rain under a bench happened to die. The cat accepted its death without hesitation. Even the cat seemed to be strong and not scared anymore of its death. The woman kindly took care of the cat’s body and began mourning after burying the cat under a tree. Death, separation, break-up…… These words are not welcomed to come up with by us until we actually face with the situation, so the theme of this book escalate the level of anxiety. However, the way this picture book expresses the death is quite honest and fresh. Therefore, readers will not be able to feel heavy at all, instead, they will rather be relieved as if they smell mint favor.
What comes next to the death? No one can determine what the death is. The writer has expressed the world of death in an honest and lovely way. A cat could be a bird, or a dolphin, or a lion, or even a dandelion seed to travel the world. There would be a woman who can recognize such a dandelion seed somewhere in the subway in the city. Separation is hard for anyone since we would never meet each other, but what if it is not that hard? What if we could recognize each other even though we all have changed after death? Isn’t it so glad and happy? Readers will feel happy and even grateful for the ending presented by the writer.
