Overview

Book Intro

The book is the collection of five different short stories, which let children readers realize the value of ordinary daily life as well as find out and care the worries of today’s children. One of the short stories is the one titled ‘The House of My Friend’, which shows how a main character, who was absent from school due to the cold, find out the places of friends to borrow the notebooks for the first time.

The one titled ‘What if My Teacher is a Witch?’ is such a funny work which shows the event of children who begin to be suspicious that their teacher is a witch. It is such a silly imagination that their own teacher is a witch, but these innocent children with their own persuasive reasons make readers smile and laugh.

In the work, ‘Anchovy Mermaid’, I, the main character, wonder why my dad does not come home, and worry about him. My dad stops coming home for almost a month after staying in Gang-Reung area due to his work, and my mom never tells me about anything about dad. Therefore, I begin realizing there is something wrong between my parents. One day, I have met an anchovy mermaid from the delivery box from my aunt, and I decided to take a train to Gang-Reung to send this anchovy mermaid back to her hometown ocean. Readers will never know whether this anchovy mermaid is real or fake, but readers will be able to meet this strong and brave child, who misses dad, beginning own journey to meet dad in person.

In the story titled ‘Because of a Cell Phone’, Hae-Joo accidentally has picked up Yeon-Ah’s cell phone, has found out Yeon-Ah’s worries, and tried to comfort her. When she discovers that her show-off friend, who gets all the attention from friends, has worries even she cannot share with others, Hae-Joo finally reconsiders about friend and makes a genuine apology. The writer warmheartedly presents how these characters resolve each other.

In the story titled ‘Doll Funeral’, Ji-Ah loses her best doll friend, Ko-Mi. Ko-Mi is a teddy bear Ji-Ah has always hold in her arms since young. Since Ji-Ah is now 11 years old, Ko-Mi has become such an old teddy bear. One day when her mother washes Ko-Mi in a washing machine, Ko-Mi has become unrecoverable. Therefore, Ji-Ah decides to have a funeral for her valuable friend Ko-Mi, who had always been a great comfort to her. It would be very difficult and somewhat new to anyone to accept the absence of a person or a thing, which was a great comfort. The writer persuasively presented the healing procedure how children recover their sadness in their own way.
