Overview

This book is a story about Sohwa who heals her wounded heart while participating in building Janggyeong Panjeon, one of the world’s cultural heritages.

Book Intro

Sohwa, who lost her mother in childbirth, lives with her father who receives flogging on behalf of others for living. Her father had been a carpenter but does this job to raise Sohwa. One day, her father gets flogged by an official with a mark on his face and dies. Old man Baemgol tells Sohwa that his father owed him money and evicts her from her home. After losing her father and her house, Sohwa cuts her long hair and follows a master carpenter who was a close friend of her father. She arrives at Haeinsa, a Buddhist temple deep in the forest, and helps the master carpenter build Janggyeong Panjeon, a wooden building to house the Tripitaka Koreana. Will Janggyeong Panjeon be built successfully? Can Sohwa heal her wounded heart and dream a new dream?

The author pays attention to the fact that Janggyeong Panjeon, the great cultural heritage, was made by ordinary people who gathered their hopes and hard work. This book encourages readers to think about how the great accomplishments in history were achieved by the hopes and hard work of countless nameless people.
