Overview

Book Intro

Let's learn the system and principles of math through historical stories. Through the history of math, readers will grow mathematical thinking and naturally learn concepts by examining "why" mathematical concepts within textbooks were created and "how" the studies were conducted.

This book explains the main events of math history from ancient times to the early modern age with writing suited to the level of middle school students and visual material filled with historical realism. The book will help students, who lost interest in math from memorizing difficult formulas and boring problem solving, to realize how fun math is.

About the Author

Kim Rina



(English) After graduating from Seoul National University of Education, she earned a Master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the same university, and a doctorate in Mathematics Education from Boston College, US. She has been thinking about how to teach math for a long time, including conducting comparative research on Korean and American elementary, middle, and high school math instructional practices and assessment methods. 

She has participated in the writing of many math textbooks. Her publication includes Understanding Fractions and Multiplication and How to Do Approximation volumes in the “Flipping Elementary Math that Surprised Even the Teachers” series, No Child Can’t Do Math, “History of Mathematics that Solves Math” series, “Hippo Hippo Whole-Math Hippo” series (co-authored), and “Hippo Hippo Math Doctor’s Smart Number Writing” series. She has published Reading, Writing, and Discussing at the Graduate Level (co-authored) and Mathematics Teaching and Learning (co-authored) in the United States, latter of which was also published in Korea under the name of Elementary School Math, How to Teach? 

 

(Vietnamese) Tác giả đã tốt nghiệp Đại học Giáo dục Seoul, hoàn thành học vị thạc sỹ ngành giáo dục toán học cũng tại Đại học Seoul, học vị tiến sỹ giáo dục toán học tại Đại học Boston, California, Mỹ. Đồng thời, tham gia nghiên cứu quá trình giáo dục toán học phổ thông của Mỹ và cũng từng có các nghiên cứu so sánh phường pháp đánh giá và hình mẫu các giờ học toán học ở bậc tiểu học - trung học - phổ thông giữa Mỹ và Hàn Quốc. Hiện nay, tác giả đang là giáo viên tại trường Tiểu học Mok-un Soeul và là giảng viên kiêm nhiệm tại trường Đại học giáo dục Seoul.

 

(Indonesian) Setelah lulus dari Seoul National University of Education University, ia melanjutkan S2 di universitas yang sama dengan jurusan pendidikan matematika. Selanjutnya, Ia lulus S3 pendidikan matematika di Boston collage United of states. Ia pernah berpartisipasi di penelitian kurikulum pendidikan matematika umum. Ia pernah melakukan penelitian perbandingan terhadap cara penilaian dan studi kasus pelajaran matematika tingkat dasar, menengah dan tinggi di Korea dan Amerika Serikat. Saat ini ia bekerja sebagai pengajar di Seoul Mogun University dan juga menjadi dosen paruh waktu di Seoul National University of Education.
