The Korean Brain Tumor Society
On 4th July 1991, the Korean Brain Tumor Research Group was established starting with 21 of domestic scholars all representatives of national major hospitals, with Dr. Gil-Soo Choi elected the first president. At the time, the field of domestic brain tumor was leaping to a new stage, introducing brain CT & MRI scanning, cerebral angiography apparatuses and equipments, and developing anatomical access to skull base surgery and molecular biological access to brain tumor. Later in 1999, it was raised to Korean Brain Tumor Society and is composed of about 400 members, The Korean Brain Tumor Society has not only expanded in size, but also progressed in the field of basic, clinical and translational research. In February 2007, it became a member of Korean Academy of Medical Sciences and raised the status of the Society. Treatment(BTRT)로 재 탄생하여 국제학술지로 발돋움을 준비하고 있습니다. The Korean Brain Tumor Society has held domestic and foreign conferences annually to exchange recent advances and make efforts to cure domestic brain tumor patients. In May 2005, the website of the Korean Brain Tumor Society was established and has fostered mutual communication between members and provided information about brain tumor to the public. In March 2002, The Journal of Korean Brain Tumor Society was published as the official scholarly journal of the Korean Brain Tumor Society, which provides basic researches, new treatments and clinical outcomes. It was renamed as Brain Tumor Research and Treatment(BTRT) and is preparing to stretch to an international journal. The Asian Society for Neuro-Oncology(ASNO) was held twice internationally, in December 2003 and 2010 June, which enhanced the position of Korea. Also, in July 2007, The first inter-Korea China brain tumor symposium was held for the first time in Harbin China, and ever since it provided a venue of mutual academic exchange and fostered friendship and developed the studies and treatments of brain tumor, biennially.
