A lot of infectious diseases appear in the history of humanity. This doesn't happen as a background, but as a leading role of history. Therefore, mankind has to know the history of infectious diseases to fully understand the history of humanity. And this would be because most of the diseases of mankind from the past consist of infectious diseases. Hence, the Korean Society of Infectious Diseases has published the first volume of 'The History of Infectious Diseases in Korea'. At the time, it was difficult to include all the vast data associated with the history of infectious diseases. So, the book included information only from prehistoric times, the period of the Three States, the period of united Silla, the Goryeo Dynasty, the Joseon Dynasty and the Japanese colonial era before liberation. We are positive that it was of great use to the majors of infectious diseases and readers who are interested in the history of infectious diseases.

The Korean Society of Infectious Diseases
After 7 years in 2016, The Korean Society of Infectious Disease started the publication process of 'The History of Infectious Diseases in Korea Ⅱ'. The volume covers 70 years of the Korean history of infectious diseases starting from year 1945, an era representing liberation and the establishments of the US military government, going through the Korean War and the Modernization period, until the MERS outbreak in 2015. Though limited, we have also put our best effort to collect and describe the history of infectious diseases in North Korea. Meanwhile in 'The History of Infectious Diseases in Korea Ⅱ', we have tried to select specially meaningful infectious diseases and describe their history after Liberation according to each phase of Korean history. I think that leaving behind a record is preparing for the future. Especially, records of infectious diseases from the past will help overcome unforseen future contagious diseases wisely. I hope that this book of history will not only be useful and valued to the inflammation experts, but also to any medical & health care related personnel, interested in the history of infectious diseases, and any medical students.
