It is in Mokpo in 1956. People gather around from all across the market once they hear someone singing Namwon Castle. They cheer when the short song comes to an end. Jeongnyeon doesn't have much and didn't learn much, but is gifted at Korean traditional sori. Whenever she sees the performances of a Gukgeuk Troupe (female classical opera) from Seoul, she believes that going to Seoul will lead to her success.
However, Jeongnyeon's mother calls the Gukgeuk Troupe the 'Devil's Nest' and takes away the money that Jeongnyeon saved up to go to Seoul. Jeongnyeon becomes mad at her mother for not recognizing her talent and dream. After a big argument with her mother, Jeongnyeon travels to Seoul and goes to the 'Maeran Gukgeuk Troupe,' which is the best at the time.
However, to Jeongnyeon, who sang based only on her confidence and desire to earn money, art is an extremely difficult and unfamiliar world. She becomes embarrassed of herself for not being aware of the actual world out there after she meets research student Heo Yeongseo, who receives recognition from all for her skills and makes strenuous efforts. Jeongnyeon also finds group life difficult with people she never met before, and her strict partner has no intention of helping her … Nothing is easy in this world. Will Jeongnyeon be able to become a star in this world and become a new 'me'?
