Overview

Feminist research activist KwonKim Hyunyoung proposes a path to feminism that goes beyond the age of violence based on her research on the problems in Korean society.

Book Intro

Feminism has become the new common sense here and now.

Where will we go, and how?

Since the revival of feminism in 2015, women have begun to look at Korean society from feminist perspectives. In an era where women face the world with feminism as a common base, what issues does feminism highlight, and in what way does feminism highlight them? Feminist research activist KwonKim Hyunyoung proposes a path to feminism that goes beyond the age of violence based on her research into the problems that exist here and now. This book takes a close look at various feminist issues in Korean society such as #MeToo, Jang Jayeong, Kim Hagui, the Nth Room, and Club Burning Sun while considering gender, sexual exploitation, victimhood, sexuality, and female politics.

KwonKim Hyunyoung has been on the forefront of feminism in Korea over the past 20 years or so, resisting violence against women and supporting victims of sexual assault. She calls herself a “research activist” because she continues to study and practice feminism. The first book she wrote entirely on her own came out in 2019 and was titled I Will Not Go Back to the Way I Was, receiving enthusiastic support from many feminists. In the book, she uses her knowledge of feminism to seek a new path beyond the age of violence. The process of digging into twisted contexts and analyzing specific phenomena based on women's experiences is tantamount to a blueprint that vividly displays how feminist knowledge is produced and utilized. With this blueprint, the author invites readers to draw a new map together, laying down the paths we already know, the paths we’ve newly discovered, and the paths we must find in the future.
