Book Intro

This is a novel for adolescents, deliciously portraying the sneaking desire, solitude, and love of a teenager that could resonate with every reader. This book will make you cheerfully laugh throughout and be captured by a pang at some point because you can’t deny the ‘destiny of life’ that we all have to passthrough in our passionate teenhood like Gil Dong’s and face the old and lonely self like his father someday. It is also the winner of the 11th Sakyejul Literary Award.

Since the accident where his brain was injured, the man aged 57 has become a seven-year-old kid and goes up on the roof whenever he finds an opportunity. It is Gil Dong, an 18-year-old boy, who takes care of such a father. His mom and elder brother are busy running the chicken restaurant they started following the father’s accident. Under the parenting stress he isn’t ready for and great fatigue, Gil Dong watches ‘porn’ to appease his loneliness and frustration.

One day, he sees a girl named Oh Miryeong. Miryeong is his age, has a gentle appearance, but loves spicy food. She even chews raw chili peppers like chewing gum. Gild Dong detests spicy stuff but he joins the internet cafe she runs: The Red - A Club of Gourmets Who Love Chili Peppers. From that day, astoundingly intense events embroider the lonely life of Gil Dong.
