Children engaging in social participation activities for the first time can be at a loss as to what social participation is exactly, and what they are supposed to do to participate. This book helps them understand why social participation is necessary in a democratic society, and suggests standards for choosing topics for discussion. Through examples of those who have engaged in social participation activities—such as Malala Yousafzai, who shared the reality of Pakistani women with the world; Ha Junseok, a Korean boy who strived to replace the name of his elementary school with a better one; and children at Susong Elementary School, who worked to establish a rest area in the National Museum of Korea—the book helps children understand that anyone can contribute to society.
