Esther Bunny, Don’t Ever Lose Yourself is the first book of Esther Kim, the illustrator of the fluffy cotton candy rabbit, Esther Bunny. In this book, Kim talks about herself, who has always tried to be herself, no matter what the situation was. The author, who was born in Los Angeles as a Korean-American and spent her teens in Tokyo, hardly felt as if she belonged to any one place. She was not completely Korean at home and nor was she completely American outside of home. The cultural diversity that she experienced in the three unfamiliar cities of LA, Tokyo, and Seoul and the constant awareness of her surroundings had a great influence on her artistic inspiration, and eventually gave birth to the fluffy rabbit, Esther Bunny. Esther Bunny is characterized by big ears flopping to one side and large glistening eyes that reflect the loneliness of the author's estranged self. 

In this book, the author records her struggles as she strived to protect and encourage herself, strengthening the muscles of her mind along the way. As in her own story, Kim encourages her readers to become the biggest fan of themselves, to do only as much as  they can, to invest in themselves, and to not pretend but instead live an authentic life. She says that “I” do not need to satisfy everyone else and neither do “I” want to do so. Kim encourages the readers to prioritize their own happiness so that they do not lose themselves no matter where they live--in any circumstances and at any time--and conveys the courage to live their life the way it is.
