(English) Far Countries, Neighboring Countries

The Far Countries, Neighboring Countries series began in 1981 with a series on six European countries in Children's Hankook Ilbo and was published as a stand-alone book in 1987. Since its inception, the series has been read by more than 15 million readers for nearly 40 years. Far Countries, Neighboring Countries is a series of timeless cartoons passed on from generation to generation, from parents and teachers to their children and students.

The initial series, which focuses on six European countries, served as the first mainstream medium to offer a glimpse of world history to a Korean readership. 15 books have been published by 2013, covering more countries such as Japan, China, and the US, as well as Korea itself.

Buku bergambar "Negara jauh, Negara jiran" ini total terdiri dari 22 jilid. Buku ini terpilih menjadi bestseller di Korea dengan penjualan lebih dari 15juta eksemplar. Buku tentang Belanda, Jerman, Perancis, Inggris, Swiss, Italia dll sudah terbit dan saat ini sedang mengerjakan jilid ke 21 dengan mengangkat tema tentang Rusia.

About the Author

Rhee Won-bok



(English) Rhee Wonbok was born in Daejeon, South Chungcheong Province, in 1946, and studied Architecture at the college of engineering of Seoul National University in 1966. He went to Münster University to study design in 1975 and obtained both a Dipl designer degree and the President Award at graduation. He also studied Western Art History at Münster University. He is currently Visual Design professor at Duksung Women's University, and he is the first Korean illustrator to be anointed as a judge at the world renowned Bologna International Illustration Contest in 2009. His representative book is Far Lands Neighbor Countries of the 21st Century series.

(Russian) В 1975 году учился на факультете дизайна в Мюнстерском университете в Германии, получил диплом дизайнера и Президентскую премию. В настоящее время работает профессором в Женском университете Доксонг и является первым корейским иллюстратором, избранным в качестве судьи на самой масштабной и известной “Болонской международной выставке иллюстраций 2009 года”.
