Overview

A guidebook for parents who got lost in dealing with children in puberty.

Book Intro

Puberty is a source of various problems for both children and parents. This is a period when children become more self-assertive, believing that they are not young anymore, while parents, unable to shake off their concerns, try to interfere with their children’s way of life, thinking that children are still children no matter how old they are. This difference in mindset is what intensifies parent-child conflicts.

Puberty comes along with physical changes. Children experience puberty and growth spurts at nearly the same time, and the abrupt physical development boosts children’s confidence. Because of this, they get the wrong idea that they can do whatever the grownups do, and they are in fact allowed to do so. And one day, they suddenly realize that their real self hasn’t changed much from when they were shorter in height. From report card to appearance and capabilities, nothing has gotten better. As they confront the question of who they really are, their sky-high confidence hits the ground. Puberty is when teenagers constantly struggle with the gap between illusion and reality. This is why children in puberty experience immense pain, which in turn causes greater pain for the parents who have to deal with their children’s rapid mood swings.

Prescription for My Child’s Puberty is an educational book that helps parents change their views on their children, who are at the peak of puberty, and provides solutions. It suggests ways to build a mature parent-child relationship that can serve as a turning point by providing detailed accounts based on actual cases obtained from counseling sessions with over 5,000 teenagers and parents, as well as practical solutions that can immediately be applied.
