Who is Jesus, the man who has profoundly affected the lives of numerous people over the past 2,000 years? What does Jesus mean to Korean society in the 21st century? Aren’t we seeing Jesus through the doctrine and dogma taught by Western people based on their own experiences? The book The Great Questions of Mankind searches for the meaning of Jesus to modern people in the 21st century without being restricted by doctrines and dogmas. The search for the meaning of Jesus equates to finding an answer to Jesus’s question “Who do you say I am?”
Prof. Bae Chulhyun from the Department of Religious Studies at Seoul National University received his PhD in Ancient Near-East Studies and his M.A in Ancient Near-East Studies from Harvard University. Prof. Bae has been working on various ancient languages, including Hebrew and Arabic in the Old Testament and Greek in the New Testament, and recently published The Great Questions of Mankind, which contains the essence of the Bible and religions seen through the eyes of the Ancient Studies professor. Bae identifies Jesus’s questions in the New Testament and explores each of their meanings. Readers will be able to look back on their lives through the life of Jesus.
