Overview

An autobiographical cartoon essay written by the writer traveling between Seoul and Jeju island

Book Intro

The season of bracken starts in Jeju island in April. It’s the time when ‘I’ am totally exhausted with my busy, glamourous, or too much life in Seoul. During the first week of April, the first train of the early morning full of women from the neighborhood leaves toward the middle of the mountains, and then, I also become one of them to satisfy my mother. Under the pleasant spring morning breeze in the woods of Jeju island, I join them to pick up brackens hidden in the yellow-green nature, and it’s just like finding a treasure.

All seasons of Jeju island are all included in this short cartoon essay. Things we come up with Jeju island are many, such as the pleasant breeze and the woods, silver grass field owned by nobody, wide field, strange local language like foreign language, the comfort on the first night and the sadness on the last night, and the scene at the airport where the feelings of excitement and sorry are crossing over, etc. Don’t I miss things which lie just a step ahead of myself, just because I see too many and walk too fast? This book will be a good and solid friend whenever you feel like breaking away your ordinary life without any reasons once in a year, or actually when you already did so.
