Immediately after the impeachment trial in 2017, many commentaries on the Constitutional Decision and books highlighting the injustices of the impeachment decision were published. But, Impeachment Inside Out is the first book to cover the criminal trials as an extension of the impeachment. The author, Chae Myungseoeng (41) is the only lawyer who has officially participated in both the presidential delegation of the impeachment trial and as defense counsel of the criminal trials. He stayed close to the president for about a year before joining the other counsels in a mass resignation on October 2017.
This book consists of four chapters. Chapter 1: Is the Constitution a Referee or Coach? examines the procedural illegality and unfairness of the impeachment trial of the Constitutional Court. Chapter 2: Absurd Grounds of Dismissal delves into the legal loopholes of the constitution's decision to dismiss the president. Chapter 3: Political Retaliation Feigning Rule of Law criticizes one by one the irrationality of the criminal court, which resulted in the resignation of lawyers and the denial of a trial to President Park. Chapter 4 concludes that the whole process was "a mountain of falsehoods" and that the forces that place "politics" or "publicity" in a higher position than the rule of law are a public enemy that undermines the foundation of free democratic society.
This book quotes key statements by relevant persons such as Choi Seowon, Choi Soonsil, Ahn Jongbeom, and Ahn Jungsung to add a sense of realism, and some unfamiliar legal terms are rendered in everyday language. The summarized subheadings and inquiries help understand issues that may seem complicated.
