Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology by which data cannot be forged or modified once they are recorded. It is a distributed trust network which is severed from a centralized system. Blockchain technology is capable of establishing a smart contract where mediator's authority and exclusiveness is minimized and security is ensured. In addition, the application of blockchain technology in various fields in society can contribute to a more transparent and trusting society. Blockchain governance uses a smart, evolved algorithm which started off from Internet governance. This book explores blockchain governance, which can be established in a way that utilizes the advantages of blockchain technology: openness, autonomy and transparency.
While cryptocurrencies pursue decentralization, one must beware of the negative side of blockchain, which is that its network can be controlled by any individual or group with sufficient computing power.
This book makes the following claims: "The history of man has evolved as the power few royals and aristocrats is distributed and shared by more people. Now in the era of democracy, the participation of people has increased significantly. However, as governments grow in size, non-symmetry between information and authority increases, democracy is retreating. Therefore, in order to establish true democracy, a horizontal governance system should be implemented by a new government which introduces and apply distributed and autonomous technologies such as blockchain." In other words, introducing network governance to improve public value is a way to bring innovation.
