The birth of Korea's first illustrated guide to goblins
An Illustrated Guide to Korean Goblins is a compilation of material collected from 54 books, including The History of Three States, and The Memorabilia of the Three States, A Collection of Stories by Yongjae, and 21 other sources and various folktales. The author tried to be faithful to the books or reference materials instead of including his personal views, but he made up names for some of the nameless monsters or ghosts that appeared in the books by considering their situation, background and characteristics. The descriptions of monsters inherited from old folktales, such as "gumiho," "du-eok-si-ni" or "do-kkae-bi," were different in each book. In this case, the varied material is introduced together as much as possible.
Illustrations in An Illustrated Guide to Korean Goblins were drawn personally by the author. One fun way of reading the book is to compare the monsters from the reader's imagination with the author's depictions.
