This novel reflects on everything about love. Ordinary people start loving each other, they start to have disagreements, they break up and then they get back together. Through this process, which seems quite common, the root and characteristics of love and its great power are examined.
A love triangle between three ordinary people is a tangled affair of those three, but it's also, to be exact, the lifetime of love. The people in love are the main characters in The Lifetime of Love, but the real protagonist is love itself.
Hyeongbae belatedly realizes, after 2 years and 10 months, that he is in love with Sunhee, the junior at his university who had confessed her love to him first but whom he had rejected. Sunhee, who has just gotten over her hurt feelings, is confused by Hyeongbae's belated confession of love. Yeongseok attends a party congratulating Sunhee on the start of her literary career. By chance, he sits next to her on behalf of Hyeongbae, even though they had only had a business relationship before, but he falls in love with her after saying "I love you, too" at her request. What on earth happened to them? First Sunhee fell in love with Hyeongbae, but now she loves Yeongseok, and Hyeongbae belatedly realizes his love for Sunhee!
The author says it's all ordered by love. Love is not something that people can will. It just suddenly comes over a person, making them helpless. It moves us, making us go through all the mysterious and paradoxical steps of lovers: from the magnificent pleasure of a date to cruel jealousy and the painful scars of a break up. This book proves why lovers change so much before and after falling in love by persistently digging into the illogical feelings and psychologies of people who fell in love for the selective but random intervention of love. With meticulous logic, it lets us know that humans can never beat love.
