Mori's Lies is a story about a child with an extraordinary imagination. Mori sees the world differently from how other people see it. Outside the window, worms fall from the sky. His sock with a hole turns into a scary monster and tries to swallow his big toe. But when he tells other people about these things, they all think he is lying. Even his mother thinks so! One day, he meets a magician in the playground. The magician can put anything into or pull anything out of his black hat. Mori wins a wager and gets hold of the magic hat. Excited, he runs to his mother thinking she will believe him this time.
Children often get lost in the world of their imagination. They sometimes perceive what they experience there as real. That's why we get confused at times when we listen to children. It is difficult to tell if they are telling the truth or describing what is on their minds. But we must never accuse them of lying because they are telling their own truth. The language that children use is different from that of grownups. They perceive things differently and apply their own logic to understand the world at a different speed. Therefore, we need to carefully go over what children say.
It is not easy to keep up with children running wild within their imagination. There are things we find unrealistic or illogical. We often pay little attention to the stories that children tell. But shouldn't their parents listen most attentively to those stories? After all, children depend on their parents the most. Mori's Lies will bring parents closer to their children.
