Overview

This book arouses children's interest in nature, while taking grownups back to childhood innocence.

Book Intro

The story begins with a mother taking a walk with her child. One morning after the rain stops, the mother heads toward the forest along a damp dirt path with her child tagging along behind. His eyes are wide with expectations as if he were visiting the forest for the first time. Stepping into the forest, they are welcomed by the wind first. The child flares his nostrils and shouts, "Mom, the wind smells like soil!" Soon, they come to a footpath paved with red gravel as round as marbles. They take off their shoes and walk lightly. Further along the path, they find a big tree. The tree is so large that not even a few grownups together would be able to wrap their arms around it. The child raises his arms in surprise. He grows curious about the forest and asks his mom a string of questions. "Mom, here is a pretty bone from the tree. Can this become a forest?" he asks, picking up a twig from the ground. "Mom, can this become a forest too?" he asks again after placing a small pebble on top of a stone tower. The mother finds his questions amusing and smiles gently. "Everything here is a forest", she answers as she makes him a wreath of leaves. Beaming broadly, the child exclaims, "I'm a forest, too!"
