Overview

A picture book that makes a story out of various animals' tails.

Book Intro

(Russian)

(English) Where is my tail?

This book teaches children about various forms of animal tails through a story about a baby lizard and other animals who chose to drop their tails. (Some animals, such as lizards, earthworms, crabs, and shrimp can drop parts of their body in an emergency, for survival. Since they have strong regenerative power, normally, they can regrow the lost part.)

This book has a unique format which allows kids to connect the tails of various animals to the body of a baby lizard. Young readers see how the baby lizard's tail grows back. At the same time, by connecting the tails of other animals to the body of the baby lizard, children can have fun learning to identify various animals by their tails. This also can help children to study the concepts of “the same” and “different” and the idea of “correspondence,” which toddler readers are especially interested in. Finally, by reading the book, children can learn about animals' self-amputation for survival.
