Moonji Publishing Co. Ltd., was founded in December 1975 by the literary critics who co-founded the Literature and Intellect Quarterly in 1970, namely Kim Byung-Ik, Kim Joo-Youn, Kim Chi-soo, Kim Hyun, and Hwang In-Choul, one of the first civil rights lawyers in Korea. Having founded upon the principle that prioritizes publishing profound literary and intellectual reflections on the era’s social oppression, Moonji has continued to this day with the belief that its history belongs not to individual actors but to the literary community at large. Our persistent endeavor has discovered and supported new writers who have invigorated Korean literature with novel ideas and intensified social consciousness through all genres and categories, including literature and humanities, academic and general interest, and children’s and young adults’ books, and we’re not going to stop. As we always have, Moonji will stay close to our readers through books, which are sculpted to epitomize the fundamental attitude toward life where everyday labor becomes everyday awakening.
