Jay Kim received her MA in the Screenplay Department of the Graduate School of Art and Culture Management at Chugye University for the Arts. After working briefly as a designer, she studied at the Writers Education Center of the Korea Scenario Writers Association. She received the Best Award in the Scenario Bank Contest sponsored by the Korea Scenario Writers Association and in the NKino Synopsis Contest. Since her debut novel Hunminjeongeum Assassinations in 2006, Kim has been writing a series of mystery novels including Baekje Death-Defying Avengers, Sharaku’s Colors, and The Golden Sword. She received the best award from the Korean Mystery Novel Writers Association in 2012 for Gyeongseong Detective Yi Sang, in which the main characters are the writer Yi Sang and Ku Bo, which is a fictional character name for the novelist Park Taewon. Gyeongseong Detective Yi Sang was published as a series in five volumes. The Island of the Shamans is the first book in the series, with profiler and detective Kim Seongho as the main character. Jay Kim met French critics, reporters, and readers online to discuss her book when the book was translated into French.
