Shin Hyewon was born in Andong, North  Gyeongsang Province, in 1964 and studied Western Painting at Ewha Woman's University. She has worked as an illustrator for many children's books including God's Tears, Ggaebi Ggaebi the Goblin, Cork Oak and Woodpecker and The Day Sleeping Granddad Woke Up.
