(English) Dennis Hong is a robotics engineer who transforms cold metal into warm technology for this changing the world, which is why he is called the Leonardo da Vinci of robots, or a modern-day magician. He carries out his role as a researcher and teacher faithfully but believes his role as a husband and father is what’s most valuable. The aim of his life is to maximize his happiness. He feels the happiest when he’s making others happy. He loves cooking and slacking off and always pursues his dreams that have yet to come true with the slogan “positivity always finds a way.”
Dennis Hong, whose Korean name is Hong Won-Seo, is a world-renowned robotics engineer, a professor of the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Department at the UCLA, and the founding director of RoMeLa (Robotics & Mechanisms Laboratory). He’s worked at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and was a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Virginia Tech.
Professor Hong is a scholar who won the National Science Foundation’s Young Scientist Award, GM Young Researcher Award, Best Invention Award by Time magazine, the RoboCup in 2011 to 2016, and the Louis Vuitton Cup Best Humanoid Award. He was also named “10 Young Genius Scientists” by Popular Science, a world-famous science magazine.
