Kim Seungsup
graduated from Yonsei University’s School of Medicine, received a master’s
degree and a doctorate from the Graduate Schools of Public Health at Seoul
National University and Harvard University, respectively. He has worked at the
George Washington University’s Graduate School of Public Health and in the
Department of Health Policy and Management at Korea University’s School of
Health Sciences, and has been an associate professor in the Department of
Environmental Health at Seoul National University’s Graduate School of Public
Health since 2022.
Using medicine and epidemiology, he researches how
social factors such as experiences of discrimination and job insecurity harm
the health of socially disadvantaged people such as the disabled, sexual
minorities, and non-regular workers. He believes that preventing people from
getting sick is as important as treating patients, and he thinks it is society’s
responsibility if ordinary people who work hard feel unable to take pride in
their lives.
