Yoon Sungik received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Ph.D. degree in history from Kyunghee University, South Korea. He worked as a researcher at Tokyo University in Japan, and he's currently teaching at Kyunghee University. His main area of research is in the relations of East Asian countries centering on wokou, and his recent interests extend to the issues with translations of modern East Asian works and to the different perceptions of history in the area. He has authored The Image of Wokou in the 21st Century; East Asian Nation-states; Jeju Island's Wokou in Folk Tales; The Research on Wokou in the Ming Dynasty; and History of Oriental Civilization.
