Jo Taebong was born in Mapo, Seoul, and studied Korean literature as an undergraduate student and children’s literature as a graduate student. He began his literary career in 2002 when his children’s story, “Madame Pigeon,” was selected as the winning piece for the Spring Literary Contest held by Chosun Ilbo; he is currently a children’s literature critic. He received the 26th Dankook Literary Award in 2019 and his works include the children’s story collections, The Cheomseongdae Observatory and the Baby Shooting Star, The Postman Who Visits at Night, and Reporting the Giraffe; the picture books, King Donkey and Sang-a’s Cocoon; and the book of reviews, A New Understanding of Children’s Literature.
