Jung Mi-kyung was born in 1960 in Masan, South Gyeongsang Province. She won JoongAng Daily’s annual spring literary contest in 1987 with her play Heavy Snow and began her literary career by publishing a short story The Woman With Arsenic. She has published several short story collections such as Bloodstained Lover, They Gave Me Balkan Roses, My Son’s Girlfriend, and French Launderette, and novels that include La Vie en Rose, The Strange Sorrow of Wonderland, Stars of Africa, and The Singer Closes His Mouth. Jung received the 26th Writer of Today Award and the 30th Yi Sang Literary Award. She passed away on January 18, 2017.
