Bae Bonggi debuted upon receiving the Sonyeon Joongang Literature Award and the Gyeomong Literature Award in the category of children’s literature, along with the Samsung Literature Award in the category of playwriting, and an award in the category of scenario writing at the literary contest co-hosted by Sports Seoul and the Korean Film Council. He has written children’s stories, novels for young adults, and plays.
His works include the young adult novels Nobody Answered, A Song That Won’t Go Away, and Hi, Lazard; a collection of plays Board a UFO, the children’s stories I Want to Play with You, New Younger Brother, I Am Me, Experimental Family, Rainbow-colored Chocolate, Fingernail Dinosaur, Starlight Child, Sweet and Spicy, a collection of children’s plays Can’t I Talk Back?, and the picture books Fly, the Youngest and Myeonghee’s Picture Book.
After retiring from the department of creative writing at Gwangju University where he worked for a long period of time, he established a children’s story/adolescent novel academy and currently teaches writers and prospective writers there.
