The author Kim Jungbae graduated from Korea University with a BA in History. After receiving his PhD at the Graduate School of Korea University, Dr. Kim studied in the department of Anthropology at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. He was a professor in the department of Korean History at Korea University, served as visiting professor at Harvard University in the US and at Paris Diderot University in France, and chaired the Korean Association for Ancient Studies, the Association for Korean Historical Studies, the Dangun Gojoseon Research Association, and the Korea Petroglyphs Research Association respectively. He continued his contribution to the study of Korean history while serving as president of Korea University, chief director of the Goguryeo Research Foundation, director of Academy of Korean Studies, head of the Cultural Properties Committee at the Cultural Heritage Administration of the Republic of Korea, and head of the National Institute of Korean History. 

Kim authored such books as Ancient Korean History and Archaeology (2000), Introduction to Ancient Korean History (2006), Gojoseon: New Interpretation (2010).
