Born in 1996, Kim Ji-wan writes children’s and young adult fiction and is a member of the creative collective “Muneobanks.” Island, their debut children’s novel, won the 20th Ma Haesong Literary Award. That same year, they also won the 14th Changbi Youth Literature Award for The Soonil Middle School Mixing Bowl Club.​​
