(English) Jo studied foreign affairs at Seoul National University (SNU) and minored in art. She received her MA in aesthetics from SNU and her PhD in art history from Hongik University. She taught in the art college of Sungkyunkwan University, and she is presently an emeritus professor. She wrote A Study of Portraits in Korea, Painters and Their Self-Portraits, A Portrait Study: Portraits and Portrait Theory, Korean Portraits: The Art of Form and Shadow, and The Royal Faces: Portraits of Kings in Korean, China, and Japan.
