Hwang Jungeun was born in Seoul in 1976. She debuted with her short story “Mother,” which was selected for the Kyunghyang Shinmun Annual Spring Literary Award in 2005. Hwang’s work includes short story collections such as The Seven Thirty-Two Elephant Train, Into the World of Passi, and Being Nobody, and novels of One Hundred Shadows, Barbaric Mr. Alice, and I’ll Go On. Her works won many prestigious awards, including the Hankook Ilbo Literary Award, the Shin Dong-yup Prize for Literature, the Young Writer Award, and the Le Hyoseok Literary Award.
