  • 강명관

Kang Myeonggwan studied Korean education at Pusan National University, and after receiving his MA from the Academy of Korean Studies, he received his Ph.D. from Sungkyunkwan University for his dissertation titled Yeohang Literature during the Late Joseon Dynasty. He is currently a professor of Korean classical literature at Pusan National University. His publications include The Island of Heosaeng: Yeonam Bak Jiwon’s Anarchism, Sin Taeyeong’s Divorce Case from 1704 to 1713 and Western Merchandise in Joseon. Kang’s study of literary works by Yeohang Poets, urban intellectuals who resided in the Seoul area, expanded the boundaries of Korean classical literature. Although his books are about Korean classical literature, they are reader-friendly, as Kang includes the study of folk culture, social history, and the history of music and art. His focus is on the study of the production and distribution of knowledge and how it is connected to producing ideas and actions as well as molding types of people of the time.
