Born and raised in Bigeum-do island in the West Sea of Korea, Kim Hae-deung was greatly inspired by the ocean from childhood. Kim made a literary debut by winning Daesan University Literature Award and also won Woongjin Junior Literature Award, MBC Children’s Literature Award, and Jeong Chae-bong Literature Award. His works include The Saddest Gold Medal in the World, Heo Gyun and His Missing Literary Friend, Here Come the Four Schoolmates, Practice School, and Half-Piece Seo Hyeon-woo.
