Lee Seongmi (F), born in Seoul, majored in Painting at the College of Fine Arts of Seoul National University and received her PhD in the United States of America. She has worked as a professor at Duksung Women's University and a museum director. She has been a professor at the Academy of Korean Studies since 1989 and was the Dean of the Graduate School of Korean Studies of the same Academy. She is currently Emeritus Professor at the Academy of Korea Studies. Other titles she has held include the president of the Art History Association of Korea, a member of the National Institute of Korean History and an editorial member for Archives of Asian Art, which is an art history academic journal. In addition, she was awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Camellia Medal (September 2011), for her efforts for the return of the Joseon royal book Oegyujanggak Uigwe (manuscripts for royal protocols stored in the royal library) and her research on "uigwe."
