Lee YoungMee is a Seoul native-born in 1961. She received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Korea University’s Department of Korean Language and Literature. Rather than pursuing a Ph.D., Lee chose to make the artwork more appealing to the mass through the progressive Art & Culture Movement with Korean traditional performance and folk music, and work as a critic and a scholar of the Daehangno theater scene. Lee served as the lead researcher at the Korean National Research Center for the Arts at the Korea National University of Arts from 1994 50 2005. She is now a visiting professor emeritus at Sungkonghoe University. Lee is also the author of Where Has the Camelia Lady Gone?, C’est Si Bon Sings Trot with Seo Taiji, Playwrights of Daehangno, and Where Has Geumsun of Heungnam Pier Gone?
