Lead author Chae Suhong earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in cultural anthropology from Seoul National University. He received a doctorate degree from the City University of New York with a dissertation on Vietnamese laborers and industrial politics. He continues to produce research on Vietnamese laborers and Korean identity and politics. He is a professor at Chonbuk University. 

Chae is the author of Wounded Cities (2003) and Labor in Vietnam (2011). He published “Political economic research on the reformation process of Ho Chi Minh City” (2004), “The Political Economy of Multinational Factory Regimes and Recent Strikes in Vietnam” (2009), “The Candlelight Protest and the Politics of the Baby Stroller Brigades,” (2010) and “The phases and causes of wildcat strikes in Binh Duong Province of South Vietnam” (2013)
