Matthew Kim joined Korean Air after completing flight training at Korean Air's airfield in Jeju. He has a pilot certification from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). Having served as a co-pilot for Korean Air's MD-82, Kim received further training at Northwest Airlines to operate the B747-400.
Completing Korea Air's pilot training at the top of his class in 2007, Kim was promoted to a pilot. Based on his experience of planning the pre-flight introductory system (PFIS) in 2012, he was sent to KAIST where he received an MBA. Kim returned to his position at Korean Air in 2013 and served numerous posts, including the flight safety team lead, standards review team lead, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport committee member.
