The author studied history at the College of the Humanities in Seoul National University and later received master’s and doctorate degrees from the same department. He worked as a curator at the archeological department at the National Museum of Korea, and also as a lecturer and assistant professor at Donga University's Department of History. Kwon was also an assistant professor, research professor, and professor in Korean history at Hanshin University and served as the director of the school’s museum. Since March 2015, he has been a professor in Korean history at Seoul National University. Kwon served as the chairman of the Jungbu Archeological Society, and from 2018 to 2019, as the chairman of the Association of Baekje Studies. Since May 2019, he has been serving as a member of the Cultural Heritage Committee's Buried Cultural Heritage Division and Dongsan Cultural Heritage Division. His publications include 『Muryeong Royal Tomb: The Light of Civilization Exchange in Ancient East Asia』 and 『The World of Three Kingdoms Dongyijeon』 (co-authored).
