Author Kwak Youngmi earned her Ph.D in Picture Books from Sungkyunkwan University. She won the 2007 Korean Award for Hans Christian Andersen in the Children's Story category. Currently, she teaches children at a special education kindergarten. She is the author of Children and Our Society Viewed through Children's Stories (joint work); Heart Resting in Mongolia; My Front Teeth Are Wobbly; Red Bean Porridge Grandma and Red Bean Ice Dessert; Elephant Circus; What Did Princes of Joseon Dynasty Study?; I Will Be the Mother; and The Huge Secret of Age Eight.
